Best Image Size for Shopify Mobile (2026 Guide)

The best image size for Shopify mobile is not a special small file for phones. Upload one sharp square master per product. Shopify’s CDN delivers smaller variants to narrow screens.

One master, many screen sizes

When a shopper opens a collection on a phone, Shopify typically serves a downscaled version of your upload, not the full 2000 px file. That is normal CDN behavior.

Recommended master upload: 2000 × 2000 px square (see recommended size cheat sheet).

You do not need a second 600 px “mobile-only” product file unless your theme documentation explicitly requires a separate asset (rare for catalog photos).

In Chrome DevTools → Network → Img, check the transferred size of gallery requests.

If PageSpeed flags images but specs look fine, the issue is often heavy masters or too many gallery images, not missing a “mobile size.”
